The Problem
Under the WHS Act 2020 and the model Code of Practice on psychosocial hazards, every business has a legal duty to identify, assess, and control psychosocial hazards — the same as physical hazards.
Ignorance is no longer a defence. Psychological injury claims average 30 weeks off work — over four times longer than the average for all workplace injury claims. Workload pressure, poor change management, and unclear role boundaries are now recognised, regulated hazards in every office and business.
This course gives managers and team leaders the knowledge, tools, and language to lead confidently — and compliantly.

Who It's For
This isn't a generic HR module. It's built for the pressures of modern office and corporate work — workload, change, hybrid teams, and performance pressure.
Line managers and department heads responsible for day-to-day team wellbeing and performance.
Team leads and supervisors setting the tone for team culture, workload, and communication.
Senior leaders with due diligence obligations under Section 27 for the organisation's psychosocial risk management.
Safety and HR professionals responsible for psychosocial risk management, policy, and reporting across the business.
Case Studies
Every case study is grounded in workload, change, and performance pressures familiar to any office or corporate environment — not a mining or industrial scenario retrofitted for the office.
A department head keeps approving after-hours requests and back-to-back deadlines without flagging workload as a hazard. Participants use the Decision Audit to identify where the workload decisions themselves became the risk — and what a compliant response looks like.
A manager is told to communicate a restructure to their team with minimal lead time and unclear detail. The workshop walks through the hazard categories from the model Code of Practice and builds a communication and support plan the manager can use immediately.
A previously engaged team member becomes withdrawn in team meetings over several weeks. Using the PFA framework (Prepare, Look, Listen, Link), participants practise the exact conversation a manager needs to have — and where it sits inside the organisation's support pathway.
Two managers give a shared team member conflicting priorities and unclear reporting lines, creating ongoing stress. Participants apply the four-step risk assessment to a hazard rooted in role clarity and reporting structure — and map out where policy, HR and the Decision Audit intersect.
Course Content
Six modules plus two hands-on workshops. You leave with tools you can use with your team Monday.
The scale of the problem in Australian workplaces. Psychosocial risk data, and why psychological health is now a legal priority — not a soft skill.
WHS Act 2020 Sections 19, 27, 28, 47. The model Code of Practice on psychosocial hazards explained in plain language. What compliance looks like — and what a breach looks like.
The psychosocial hazard categories from the model Code of Practice — workload, role clarity, change management, poor support. A four-step risk assessment model and hierarchy of controls.
How everyday leadership decisions — workload allocation, deadlines, change communication — create or worsen psychosocial risk. A structured audit framework to review decisions before and after they're made.
Psychological safety frameworks (Edmondson, Clark). The PFA model — Prepare, Look, Listen, Link. Early intervention in one-on-ones and the Traffic Light model.
Each participant leaves with a personal leadership action plan. Three specific commitments. A wellbeing pledge. 30/60/90 day check-in structure.
Workshop 1 — Hazard Mapping: Teams map real psychosocial hazards from their own workplace — workload, change, role clarity, support gaps — using the model Code of Practice framework, and build a control plan.
Workshop 2 — Case Study Leadership: Scenario-based decision making using the workload, restructure, and difficult-conversation case studies above. Teams apply the Decision Audit and PFA frameworks in real time.
Workshop Scenarios
Workload spikes, always-on culture, unclear role boundaries, and change fatigue — teams plot these against the model Code of Practice hazard categories and leave with a team-specific control plan.
Teams work through the workload and restructure case studies live, applying the Decision Audit and PFA frameworks to decide what a compliant, practical response looks like before the day ends.

Why This Course Is Different
Goes beyond theory with the Decision Audit — a practical tool that gets managers examining how their own workload and change decisions affect team wellbeing, not just ticking a compliance box.
Backed by the HoldPoint app, so the PSA Checklist and other tools are still on hand day to day — not left behind in a folder after the course ends.
Built specifically around the WHS Act 2020 and the model Code of Practice on psychosocial hazards — not a generic wellbeing session with no legal grounding.
The Day
Structured for working managers and teams. No filler. No death-by-PowerPoint. Practical workshops, real scenarios, and tools you'll actually use.
